Top 10 Lies told to Naive Artists and Designers

1 "Do this one cheap (or free) and we'll make it up on the next one."
No reputable business person would first give away their work and time or merchandise on the hope of making it up later. Can you imagine what a plumber would say if you said "come in, provide and install the sink for free and next time we'll make it up when we need a sink." You would be laughed at! Also the likelyhood is that if something important came along, they wouldn't use you.

2 "We never pay a cent until we see the final product."
This is a croc, unless the person is leaving the door open to cheat you out of your pay. Virtually every profession requres a deposit or incremental payment during anything but the smallest project. Once you have a working relationship, you may work out another arrangement with a client. But a new client should not ask you to go beyond an initial meeting and, perhaps some preliminary sketches without pay on the job!

3 "Do this for us and you'll get great exposure! The jobs will just pour in!"
Baloney. Tell a plumber "Install this sink and my friend will see and you'll get lots of business!" Our plumber friend would say "You mean even if I do a good job I have to give my work away to get noticed? Then it isn't worth the notice." Also the guy would likely brag to everyone he knows about how this would normally cost (X) dollars, but brilliant businessman that he is he got if for free! If anyone calls, they'll expect the same or better deal.

4 On looking at sketches or concepts: "Well, we aren't sure if we want to use you yet, but leave your material here so I can talk to my partner/investor/wife/clergy."You can be sure that 15 minutes after you leave he will be on the phone to other designers, now with concepts in hand, asking for price quotes. When you call back you will be informed that your prices were too high and Joe Blow Design/Illustration will be doing the job. Why shouldn't they be cheaper? You just gave them hours of free consulting work! Until you have a deal, LEAVE NOTHING CREATIVE at the clients office.

5 "Well, the job isn't CANCELLED, just delayed. Keep the account open and we'll continue in a month or two."
Ummm, probably not. If something is hot, then not, it could be dead. It would be a mistake to *not* bill for work performed at this point and then let the chips fall where they may! Call in two months and someone else may be in that job. And guess what? They don't know you at all.....

6 "Contract? We don't need no stinking contact! Aren't we friends?"Yes, we are, until something goes wrong or is misunderstood, then you are the jerk in the suit and I am that idiot designer, then the contract is essential. That is, unless one doesn't care about being paid. Any reputable business uses paperwork to define relationships and you should too.

7 "Send me a bill after the work goes to press."
Why wait for an irrelevant deadline to send an invoice? You stand behind your work, right? You are honest, right? Why would you feel bound to this deadline? Once you deliver the work and it is accepted, BILL IT. This point may just be a delaying tactic so the job goes through the printer prior to any question of your being paid. If the guy waits for the job to be printed, and you do changes as necessary, then he can stiff you and not take a chance that he'll have to pay someone else for changes.

8 "The last guy did it for XXX dollars."
That is irrelevant. If the last guy was so good they wouldn't be talking to you, now would they? And what that guy charged means nothing to you, really. People who charge too little for their time go out of business (or self-destruct financially, or change occupations) and then someone else has to step in. Set a fair price and stick to it.

9 "Our budget is XXX dollars, firm."
Amazing, isn't it? This guy goes out to buy a car, and what, knows exactly what he is going to spend before even looking or researching? Not likely. A certain amount of work costs a certain amount of money. If they have less money (and you *can*) do less work and still take the job. But make sure they understand that you are doing less work if you take less money that you originally estimated. Give fewer comps, simplify, let them go elsewhere for services (like films) etc.

10 "We are having financial problems. Give us the work, we'll make some money and we'll pay you. Simple."
Yeah, except when the money comes, you can expect that you will be pretty low on the list to be paid. If someone reaches the point where they admit that the company is in trouble, then they are probably much worse off than they are admitting to. Even then, are you a bank? Are you qualified to check out their financials? If the company is strapped to the point where credit is a problem through credit agencies, banks etc. what business would you have extending credit to them. You have exactly ZERO pull once they have the work. Noble intentions or not, this is probably a losing bet. But if you are going to roll the dice, AT LEAST you should be getting additional money for waiting. The bank gets interest and so should you. That is probably why the person is approaching you; to get six months worth of free interest instead of paying bank rates for credit and then paying you with that money. Don't give away money.

Now, this list wasn't meant to make anyone crazy or paranoid, but is designed to inject some reality into the fantasy.

You are GOING to be dealing with people who are unlike yourself. Their motivations are their own and their attitudes are probably different than yours. There are going to be demands, problems, issues and all the hassles that go with practically ANY work/job/money situation. Too many times I see the sad example of someone walking in to a situation with noble intentions and then getting royally screwed, because what they see as an opportunity and a labor of love, the other party sees as something else entirely, not at all romantic or idealized, but raw and simple.

How can you deal with this stuff and still do good creative work? Good question. THIS is why an education is important. You learn, out of the line of fire, how to deal with the art at it's own level and also how to deal with the crap that surrounds it. You may have tough teachers and think that it can't be worse, but wait until a business person has a hundred grand riding on your art! Then you will know what "demanding" means. You will then thank all those tough teachers for building up the calluses that enable you to enjoy the job rather than just feeling like it is all a big waste of time!

In the end, working commercially, being a terrific artist is about 25% of the task. If that is the only part of the task that you are interested in, do yourself a favor. Don't turn "pro."

Used camera gears, anyone interested?

Sorry la bout the chatbox, i'm not sure myself how to do it. Thats why we have our own webmaster, which is Andy, & Samantha to help him out ( the way it suppost to be ). Maybe i'll try look around on how to do it later.

Anyways, we already in new semester. Hooray!! Have everyone checked your results? Wish you guys all the best. Since this new semester is all about photography, having your own gear is quite essential. Well normally, photographers dont like to share their stuff with others. Also, when you have your own gear, you can easily adjust your settings without having trouble look around in the menu for the thing you wanted to change. Nobody wants to miss a shot during a football game right? As minimum as entry level body & kit lens will do wonders for you once you know how to tackle it. Yeap, things doesnt come cheap in photography field but doesnt mean you always have to buy new sets of equipments. A used ones in good condition is another option you can look for.

I'm sure everyone knows about e-bay & lelong.com online site, where buying made easy through online deals. Plus, online deals normally, can say almost all the time, is cheaper than shops. There are a lot conman out there, and i'm aware of that. Thats why i prefer to use cash on delivery (COD) method for online purchase. Reason why? At least i get the chance to examine the stuff first before pay with my hard earn cash. It can be a new or used items. Those items warranty is based on original buyer's date of purchase. Just make sure they give their receipt together with you. If the items warranty period is over for the item you wanted to purchase, normally the seller will give certain amount of period as seller's personal warranty. If anything goes wrong, you can always return to seller & get your cash back. Just make sure the seller have a good rating before you purchase from them!

Hoho.. New layout i see. Nice. But i couldnt find the chatbox anywhere. Did you deleted it by accident?

Back to title, i'm sure everyone knows about it right? Remember the advertisement where the paper guy try to cross to another building from window & stuck in the middle of the string between 2 building? And everyone use every method they could came out with to blow him to the other side of the building? Personally, i think the advertisement is very interesting & creative plus, their theme song is nice too. The big event was held on 21 November at Jalan Bukit Bintang, KL. Over 5,000 people gathered at the event, which also streamed live from their website and viewed by almost 780,000 web users across the nation!

Sadly, things didnt go out as planned for me. I intended to visit the exhibition at Jalan Duta, the one Sri mention in her post on 21st morning, then go to the everyone connects event after lunch time or maybe in the evening. And as usual, something came up & responsibility calls for duty. Oh well... maybe luck is just not on my side - for the time being.

Hello guys...and Happy Holidays....!!!

Eventhough its holiday, we should never stop thinking and learning... hmm, so skema ee?? Wakaka... Sorry... Didn't mean to be soooo..... like this... hahaha.... so, the reason why I am writing this is because I want to share something with everyone. Hehe, why fish? I think fish are very interesting creature. They live in water, which is very opposite with us, so imagine if we are fish. How does it feel to be a fish or water creatures? How does it feel to have very complicated design and colors on our body? Note that one okay....

I was playing this game called Feeding Frenzy, and at the end of each game, this fun fact will pop out and here we go...... (please download the game, its kind of kiddish and funny but it help me build up my knowledge about fish, its quite cool i can say, hehe)

Jelly fish, have you ever wonder or have questions about how jelly fish swims, or move? Well, I never thought of that, I just know they sort of like pushing in and out upwards.... Haha... If you know what I mean, hihi... well, I just found out, many jellyfish are vertical commuters, they sink to deep water during the sunniest part of the day and move back to the surface to feed ot other times.... mmm..

Despite their delicate appearance, puffer fish have bony mouthplates that help them crunch up shellfish, crabs or any other creatures that end up in their mouth. So how to they expand their body? The stomach of a puffer fish is pleated, like a scottish kilt. Hehe, amazing huh??

Down here is a Marlin. Do you know how a Marlin feed himself? He will whack his bills around to stun prey that is swimming in a school (a group of fish).

I think everyone knows this one, this is Lion Fish. What is interesting about them? Hmm, i don't know if this is interesting enough, but they do most of their hunting at night. Why? Google la...

And this one is pretty interesting, this fish is called the Tiny Goby. This is the smallest fish in the world. It doesn't say in the world but i assumed it is. If anyone knows is not, please correct me. This fish only grows about 1/2 inch long. Hurm... tiny yea...

Haha, Finding Nemo group? You guys loveeeeee fish don't chaa???? Ngeheee......

Photography 101 - HDR

Another babbling about photography (yeah i know). This time is about HDR. HDR is a technique requires editing the image using multiple exposure & combine them into one to create a painting-like image (or sometimes is used to solve hard lighting situation - example shooting in a tunnel towards the tunnel exit without overexposed outside of the tunnel & at same time preserve sufficient details of inside the tunnel). Well, here i am again. This time its about photo manipulation. As you may already know, digital photography is no longer is from what you see. Now days, its normal for photos to be edited, normally to enhance the image, recover bad photos or to give more impact. Depends on individual creativity, people bring it to another level of editing photos by manipulate those images to create new type of photography. To an extend, fine art & design principle were added in to bring originality for their portfolio. As a result, a blend of multiple art line is mixed into one. Buying a DSLR

I know i gave my suggestion which camera to buy but i never explain anything about the difference between each brand. Each brand has its pros & cons. As all of u may already know, Nikon & Canon is the leading brand for SLR's currently.

Nikon is well known for portrait as it gives natural skin tone. But Nikon's entry level camera body dont support all type of lens. Also, to reduce shake during photoshoot, Vibration Reduction function (VR) is used. To use the function, u have to buy the expensive VR lens.

Canon in the other hand, excel in sports, or in other words capturing moving objects. Another good thing about Canon is, all canon DSLR using CMOS sensor, producing nice photo image. The downside is on its shake reduction system. Same as Nikon, Canon's system of shake reduction is with its lens. The Image Stabiliser (IS) lens price range is just about the same as Nikon's VR lens.

Beside those 2, there are other brands which you can consider to buy. For example, Olympus is good in landscaping while Sony is more to portraiture as well. Both brand has camera body built in shake reduction, which will save you a lot from buying shake reduction lens. In other words, even the normal lens without shake reduction also can become shake reduction lens. The difference between these 2 brand is in its system. Olympus uses the four-third system while Sony use the same system as Nikon & Canon.

I've been using Sony DSLR for almost 2 years now & looking forward upgrading my gear before next semester starts. Sony offer low price & good function compare to others in entry & intermediate level. Its true Sony is new in DSLR field, but the technology they have in DSLR now is improvement of Konica-Minolta, which they bought over the company years ago. Despite the great specifications they have, such as fast autofocus (AF) in live view mode (LV) & tilt lcd screen, they lack built quality in their kit lens. Slow focusing & chromatic aberration is the thing you might get in the older kit lens (like mine).

Conclusion is, there is no such thing as the perfect brand. Its you who make the difference, not the camera. Go to camera shop & try it all before choosing the one that suit you best. Get the feel & choose the ones with best specs with great value for money. Happy camera hunting =)

Haha.. i'm sure most of u wondering if its real or not. It is real and taken from Alamanda Putrajaya. This type of photography is called tilt-shift photography, which require editing in photoshop or other software to enhance the image and add blur effect on top & below of the image. Photography 101 - Choosing the right camera

Hey guys. Its been a loooooooooooooooonngggg time since i post anything. Semester break is just around the corner. I'm sure everyone is looking forward to it, even though it will only last for a week.

As all of u have known, we will have photography class in semester 3, and it will be 3 weeks course before our next holiday. Those who already own a DSLR camera, try spend more time with it and get familiar with its function. Go out, snap anything that interest you. A good knowledge of your camera will help you a lot in shooting a good picture.

Those who still looking & trying to decide which one to buy, i'm sure most of you thought everything looks the same. Its just the price that makes the difference. People normally thought buying a cheap ones will do the job just fine. Its true in the end, its you who makes the difference in capturing a good picture. But by investing in proper gear will surely worth every ringgit you spend as long term investment, if you are thinking of being serious in photography of course. Entry level DSLR indeed is cheap, normally use CCD type sensor with standard 9 focus point & burst mode of 3 frames per seconds with limited functions. Intermediate & pros used the CMOS sensor DSLR which is more expensive but works better under low light conditions.

Modern SLR's, or simply put it as DSLR comes with different types of sensor. There are 2 types of sensor. It can be a CCD or a CMOS sensor. CCD sensor indeed is sharp under sufficient light conditions and works best in daylight but it produce a lot of noise when a higher ISO is used. In low light conditions, its better to bump up your ISO than slowing your shutter speed simply because slower shutter speed will cause your moving images blurred, even when using a tripod. A CMOS sensor in other hand, produce lower noise when using higher ISO, allowing you to snap a picture with lesser noise under low light conditions.

So choose wisely when you want to buy a DSLR camera. If you think you want to go further with it, i suggest you invest on intermediate level instead of entry level since you might, or should i say u will get frustrated with entry level camera's in no time as your skill developed. For those who have the thought having one for the sake of taking pictures, entry level will be good enough for you. I think i had enough for today. For those who interested investing on camera's, my suggestion is as listed below :

Nikon - D5000, D90, D300 ( if you serious about photography )
Canon - 500D, 50D
Sony - A500 , A550, A700

As for entry level recommendations, i suggest ;

Nikon - D3000, D60
Canon - 1000D
Sony - A230, A330, A380

Its not necessary to buy a new set of camera's. A second hand ones in good condition will save your pocket from having a large hole. Its rare to find DSLR camera's & gears in crappy condition though so you dont have to worry much in buying a used camera. All you need to make sure is the camera body has low shutter count, and the lens is in good condition, ( snappy, no oily blades & no fungus in it).

Well then. Off i go now. Still have cube work to be done.

I am truly excited......................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

So guess what? My dad was in Bukit Bintang few days ago... and I called him to ask something.. then he was like, do you want anything from Low Yatt? I said, erm.... maybe not... then he was like, if you want anything I can go there and buy them for you... then you know when you started to get an idea of what you want... the TING sounds in your head, hahaha...

It was BAMBOO FUN that came out in my head..so, i told him and he was like, what is that? He sounded quite frustrated I guess, or somehow burdened because he didnt know what is Bamboo Fun.. then I told him its a graphic tablets. Just ask them, they would know, and we hung up. But yeah, the other part of me, was like.. aahhh.. its okay.. maybe next time you can go with him, show him.. cos i don't want that old man to go there and having a hard time looking for it...

Then suddenly, he called and asked, does it have like a pen, and mouse and this thin sort of mouse pad, I dont know... Yeah!!! That's it! I said. He said okay and hung up. I was HUH??! Okay? Okay he's going to buy? or okay he finally know what it was?

I called him back, pretending to ask, is it white? He said, i dont know, i think so, its in the box.. then my heart pumped.... nguaahaaaa... he bought it! Thank you so much... I love you Dad... Hihihi.. So, you guys know what is Bamboo Fun? Check it out.... Its so much fun...!!! Have a look!

Hello Everyone....!!!

Sleeping? Cubing?? !! Hihi....

Truthfully, from my heart, I was amazed by the animation things we did. I didn't know we could achieve something like that. Well, at least for me, it was like that. Now I know everything and anything is possible. You just have to wake up knowing you are willing to put the effort and struggle a little bit, to achieve the best result, but still I know, this is just the beginning, the rest is still waiting.....

I can say, what we did is just some tiny dots on a white paper. There are still more and more dots to fill up the white paper.... So, our journey has just started, so do dream... do imagine.. do hope.... and most importantly, do make it true... I am 20 years old.. coming 21... I never regret my decision switching to graphic from architecture... It was the best decision that I made my whole life.. people say, why worry? You are still young... I say no... I don't want to feel young and waste all this time thinking I am not going to get old.... somehow for me, age is just numbers...

So i prefer not to live by numbers... and I thank God for giving me the path and giving me strength to move on eventhough I was crushed before... I remembered Mr Charless said "The force on this one is really strong" Haha... I went back home that day thinking about it... its a deep thought... I wasn't like this in the years I did architecture.. When I started graphic, I didn't know where or how I wake up everyday, as a bloody monster... waiting to chew all the things I can... The force is really strong... It is Mr Charles... Thanks for saying that.... It made me even grateful....

I have learnt my lesson... Thanks to the people around.... They made me see what life is not all about.... You will meet selfish bastards... You will deal with the whatever people... You will see some beautiful people... You will hear some beautiful words and remember them.. You will pick up some values from wherever you go... yeah?? Nevertheless, I never stop learning... I never stop thinking...Maybe thats why I suffer sleeping problems... Hahaha.... Insomnia... What the heck?! Sometimes I don't sleep but I don't care...

Cos tomorrow is waiting... yesterday is something... and now is everything... so before I land my head on my pillow... I will always tell myself to be prepared for tomorrow... its not just tomorrow... its everything... you lose one day.. you lose millions of electricuted brain cells... which means you are not developing your brain... Hehe... You want that? I know I dont want that... I always hope tomorrow will give me the best.... of what I can have.... I know things will go bouncy bounce here and that, but people, thats life... its just a matter of how you train yourself to deal with things... to be more wiser and wiser....

To be even better..what I do is, I always listen... listen.. and listen to what other people have to say about everything.... you missed a word... you will blend the information wrong.... it will affect your understanding... and I talk when it is necessary to talk, especially in professional situations.. where you have to gather infos visually and verbally... I take my time... processing... but I am not just a serious jerk.. I know how to fool around and joke... Hehehe... What I am saying is, there is always a perfect time for you to choose... the dont's and do's... Hehe... Don't you think so?

What I do? With IKEA

I think most of us likes going to Ikea and buy stuffs. The price range are reasonable, their things are multi-purpose, which I think is the best part of Ikea, and its colorfulllll.....!!!

Even 70% of my household items are Ikea's..... The fact that Ikea is dominating the household world can't be denied. Having said this, in my opinion..there are goods and bads of Ikea.. For instant, i bought this bookcase from Ikea, and it turn out to be that it can't be move too much because its not so solid. (They use MDF Board which I think is not so compressed compared to our local MDF) So, it has limited movement. But the good part is, I can change the levels of the board according to my desire..

Some Ikea's glass's items sometimes freaks me out. When i knock on them, it seem like its so hollow it can break anytime.. I am not so sure how they made it... but when i go to other places, i see better glass quality. I feel better..... Hehe... don't get me wrong here ya... I use Ikea's glass's items too... but i picked the ones that i see has the best quality and offers good price.

The most likable Ikea's item at my place is the day-bed i use as sofa at the living room. It was suppose to be my bed but since my mum sent my brother's queen bed to me, I had to transfer it to the living room. At first, I was a little bit upset, cos I love the space I have in my room... but looking at the bright side, my living room feels so different... the home sweet home feeling rise even more..... Hahaha... its so inviting....

There's a lot more to share.... My home decoration.... the items, i bought them at Ikea's christmas sale.. Not christmas tree okay... I bought the colorful glass balls... Lots of them... And I put them on top of a small wine glass i filled with coffee beans... put them on top of the tv cabinet... also i put them on the candle's holder... so it looks like colorful lights instead of just glass ball decoration. And the other thing I did was, I bought this translucent purple cloth, i wired the glass balls (purple and green) to each others and wrapped them in that purple cloth and tied it to the Ikea's standing light in my room. So, at night, when I switch it on, I have nice purple and green lights on my walls... Hehe...

Hey guyss..well this my another picture..all of them i took at Starhill. actually theres alot more..hehe..

1. from the left what im trying to show is that, the background light is very bright so once i took a picture, it became a shilehoutte..hehe

2. While i was walking, i took some of the random picture..soo i saw this..this light was in order. as we can see the light is all the same and as what we call reapetition and also sence of movement, even the rocks on the left hand site.

3. this another picture that show reapetition and contrast also.

4. From Marriot on the way to Starhill which is after tht room is Starhill, on the left hand site. Try to look at the room..is very unique and full of lights around it..up and down..every second it change colour.

Anyways, I have been doing my animation and you know what i hate about it??
WHEN THE COMPUTER FREEZE!
Ok, yesterday I was half way processing my work. Then, all of sudden, my laptop decided to freezes everything and the coolest part is....."you need to close all your windows" OH-MY-GOSH!!
I got so mad... and so frustrated!! Because.....I forgot to save it while editing it.

Computer just won't say "sorry, I lost your data". NO. Never. grrrr.... I felt like throwing the laptop on the floor, but at the end, I am the one who will be rugi. So, no. I didn't do that.

SO GUYS... SAVE WHILE EDITING!!!! Computers are HELPFUL yet HATEFUL!!!!

Word Pooping

After much 'semangat-ed' words from MR Charles, classmates have been constantly uploading stuff to resurrect our dead blog. I think if Mr Charles wouldn't have given us some 'semangat-ed' words, this blog will never resurrect. Anywayyy, excuse me for talking crap. I'm just letting out everything what's in my mind/thoughts. :)
(That's why I titled my post "Word Pooping".)

Anywhooo, since this is a blog/journal, I shall just type as my fingers and mind leads me to.

Do you know how fast three quarters of the semester has gone?! My gosh! I could still re-call those-first-moments of when class first started for us. How quiet we were during the very first class, which was Mr Ernesto's class. How we picked Zaidi to be our Class Representative and how we didn't know how old he was. *Giggles. And not to mention how shy we all were when introducing ourselves to the class. But look at us now, ONE BIG FAMILY! :)) Oh and not to forget, the dread we all carry when it comes to FOUR HOURS of drawing class with Mr. Ernesto and now, it's over in just a blink of an eye. Time flies.. Before you know it, we would all be graduating.

I would say it's been one heck of a Semester with you guys! I enjoyed every moment in class and there's more to comeee! Anyway, I should go now and continue my assignments before I procrastinate more.

All the best for Mr Ernesto's subject! Let's hope we all pass and get to Semester Two together.

Art trip

Art Museum Trip
The first artist I noticed in the museum was an artist named Zhang Zhou. I thought that the painting “Majestic Bridge really caught my attention. This painting is oil on canvas and I noticed that there is contrast, balance and proximity in this image. The yellow lights in this image really contrast well with the dark background. Zhang Zhou also balanced this picture very well as the towers on each side and cars balance together thus creating a sense of unity and a busy-calm.
I admired another of Zhang Zhou’s paintings. This one is named “Golden Peaks, KL”. This too was oil on canvas. In this painting I became aware of balance between the twin towers and the red moon. The buildings create an illuminating effect on the image emphasising the bustling life in the city. There is also contrast between the red sky ad the dark land creating a feeling of harmony and urban peace.

Another artist that caught my attention was an artist named Mahadi B. Ayob. His painting was called “Tamak Haloba” which means real greed. The reason this painting was titled greed was because it resembles the man’s greed to get what he wants (shown on his hand), and what it costs to get it (water and pots breaking). This painting has an hierarchy and repetition effect (pots leading up into the horizon).

Last two days, it was a Ikea Exhibition at our college's gallery... I found one of my favourite product 'IKEA PS ELLAN Chair'.
The designer lost his screws when he made this chair... Besides that, he found a way to make this flatpack puzzle chair without any tools.

Also i got to know IKEA was founded in 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad in Sweden (not switzerland). IKEA named by the initials of the founder's name (Ingvar Kamprad), the farm where he grew up (Elmtaryd), and his home parish (Agunnaryd, in Småland, South Sweden). Democratic design is the design philosophy at IKEA. Mean having a limited budget shouldn't prevent people from creating a beautiful home, with practical and sensible furniture. Therefore, IKEA offers good-quality design that the many people can afford.

It ain't no photography trick.

He just paints himself up and blends into the background.

The artist's name is Liu Bolin. Born in Shandong, China. He manages to camouflage himself in any surroundings, no matter how difficult they might be.

Liu works on a single photo for up to 10 hours at a time, to make sure he gets it just right, but he achieves the right effect: sometimes passers-by don’t even realize he is there until he moves.

The talented Liu Bolin says his art is a protest against the actions of the Government, who shut down his art studio in 2005 and persecutes artists. It’s about not fitting into modern society. Despite problems with Chinese authorities, Liu’s works are appreciated at an international level.

What she depicts is love and war, set amidst the turmoil of The Great
Patriotic War, or as we call it in America, WWII. Ukraine was probably
the area most devastated in the war, even more than Germany. It was a
conflict that saw nearly one in four Ukrainians killed. A population
of almost 42 million lost between 8 and 11 million people, depending
on which estimate one references. Ukraine represented almost 20
percent of all the causalities suffered during WWII. And that was
after Stalin had killed millions during the manufactured famines
before the war. It to this day touches every Ukrainian. That's the
context of war memory that Kseniya reaches out to.

The sand art of Kseniya is set to music that reflects the tone of what
she is trying to project, and the combined effect works very well.

Sand animators use simple grains of sand to tell a story, in a way many

people haven't seen before. What Kseniya Seminova does in a few short minutes

is all the more memorable because it is so fleeting. Once she is finished,

the grains of sand go back into containers and the art is swept away.

Are we suppose to write about the paintings only?

How about the sculptures?

Personally, I like this piece by Chan Teck Heng. Titled, " Akhirnya-The last ".

A simple sculpture could portray many meanings. Normally, when a person wants to achieve something, he or she would aim high. And climb to the top. However, this sculpture shows that the human being is bending down low and reaching for something which doesn't seem to be obvious. It could be his dreams or a loved one that he or she wants to protect. It shows how life is tough for us that sometimes we have to bend down to achieve something that is important to us. Sometimes we have to push our egos aside and be patient when we're dealing with certain situations that makes us feel uncomfortable. The outcome of the humiliation might worth more than the ego that had held us back. As long as we do it for the right reasons.

The next painting I would like to talk about is this particular piece.

When I stumbled upon it, I stared at it for quite some time cause' I notice something different about it. I'm not sure if a lot of you notice but if you look at the background from far, you could actually see a human figure with lots of hands.. and another human figure cuddling it from the front. Took me some time to figure out the drawing.

When I first saw it, my eyes were directed straight to the obvious human figure at the bottom left corner. I knew the background was blue but I had no idea that there was actually a figure at the back. I forgot the name of this piece but as you guys could probably already guessed it, its painted by Zhang Zhou. I like the way he blended the background and sort of made it into an optical illusion piece where you could only see from afar.

So next time you look at a painting, take a step back and look at it again.

This painting facinates me. The use of colour and the realism factor seems so well done that it actually looks like a photographed picture instead of a painted one.

I like the differrent layers of colour at the rock and the shadows just makes it more real. It has proximity principle in here whereby the rocks are overlapping or combining into each other. The colours and shadow tells them apart. There is also direction cause our eyes move from the huge rock to the travellers and the path that they are heading to, which is the bottom left corner. Even the way the rocks are shaped shows that they're moving towards the left .

The title of this painting is " Set Off ".

Those travellers are probably heading towards a whole new adventure or back home to their loved ones. It shows no matter the hot weather, or travelling inconvenience, they are determined to move forward to their destination. Can you imagine living in the ancient century, at the dessert with no cars , air cons, or even a cellphone? Would you walk out of your house to travel far? You probably wouldn't even own a home.

We should be grateful we're living in this era!

I think he's pretty famous now among our class since the art gallery is fillled with most of his artworks. So I guess I need not mention his name (:

He is from China and was born in the year, 1956.

Which makes him 53 years old by now! 53 years of age and has already made it this far.

He studied and taught art at the Liaoning Teachers Education Art Department.

Anybody interested in becoming an artist? Study there!

He likes using Western Oil Paintings instead of brush and ink paintings traditions. He's also greatly inspired by the French masters Henri Matisse, Paul Gauguin and Gustave Klimt.

HAAAAAIII! I haven't done my Art Gallery report yet, sigh, already in the festive mood. Tomorrow I have to wake up early (around 2.30pm, OMG) to go all the way to KL to buy my brother some baju raya cos apparently he spent all his baju raya allowance on "other things", sigh again, what is family for huh?

Anyway, here's what I've been occupying myself with all night since most of my friends have already balik kampung! That's Page 1, there's a Page 2 that I haven't coloured yet.

Oh yeah I saw DD at Parade. I walked out of the pharmacy and heard some guy screaming MAMI! MAMI! and I was like WTF and there was DD. Haha.

Ps: Crap. I actually thought I did a whole drawing without any swearwords in it but I just realised that... I WAS DEEPLY MISTAKEN! Oh well. We're all artists here and we all swear. ...Fabio it.
